Paris Saint-Germain overwhelmed Villarreal 6–0 at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Tuesday, producing a record-breaking opening burst that settled this UEFA Champions League league-phase fixture almost before the hosts could find their footing.

Four goals inside the first 17 minutes established a new Champions League benchmark. João Neves opened the scoring in the ninth minute, Désiré Doué added another in the 12th, Senny Mayulu struck in the 13th and Fabián Ruiz made it four in the 17th. Ruiz then completed his double in the 50th minute before substitute David Boly rounded off the victory in the 78th.

Eight minutes that dismantled Villarreal

The decisive spell was as sudden as it was punishing. Neves’ ninth-minute opener began a sequence of four PSG goals in eight minutes, leaving Villarreal facing an enormous deficit with much of the first half still to play.

Doué’s goal in the 12th minute was followed almost immediately by Mayulu’s in the 13th. When Ruiz added the fourth in the 17th minute, the visitors had turned a potentially demanding European away fixture into a demonstration of their attacking strength.

Villarreal reached the interval without conceding again, but the 4–0 half-time margin reflected the damage already done. Their challenge after the break was to restore some stability rather than allow the deficit to grow.

Ruiz doubles up as PSG maintain control

Any hopes of a more comfortable second half for the hosts were checked five minutes after the restart. Ruiz struck again in the 50th minute, taking his personal tally to two and extending PSG’s advantage to five.

Boly supplied the final goal in the 78th minute, coming off the bench to put his name on a result that underlined the visitors’ depth as well as their dominance.

The statistics reinforced the gulf between the sides. PSG controlled 70.6% of possession and registered 22 shots, with 12 on target. Villarreal attempted 14 shots but directed only two on target, offering too little sustained threat to disturb the visitors’ clean sheet. PSG also won eight corners to the hosts’ four.

A statement victory in the league phase

The result leaves PSG with four wins from four league-phase fixtures, while Villarreal have one victory and three defeats. Beyond the three points, the visitors banked a six-goal boost to their goal difference.

For Villarreal, the opening collapse will demand particular scrutiny. For PSG, this was a memorable European away performance: a historic start, five different goalscorers and control maintained all the way to the final whistle.
