Manchester City turned a goalless contest into an emphatic away victory at Anfield, beating Liverpool 3–0 in the Premier League on Sunday, October 11. Erling Haaland broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, Jérémy Doku doubled the advantage in the 68th, and Rayan Cherki completed the scoring in the 78th.

The decisive shift came just before that burst. Ryan Gravenberch’s dismissal in the 62nd minute left Liverpool a player short, and City needed only three minutes to make their numerical advantage count.

A goalless first half, then a costly dismissal

Neither side found a breakthrough before the interval, leaving the fixture finely balanced at 0–0. Ronald Araújo received an early booking in the eighth minute, while Gravenberch was cautioned shortly after the restart, in the 47th.

City’s Nico O’Reilly also went into the referee’s book in the 58th minute. Four minutes later, Gravenberch was shown a red card, changing the complexion of the contest with almost half an hour remaining.

City strike three times in 13 minutes

Haaland supplied the opening goal in the 65th minute, giving City the breakthrough that had eluded both sides for more than an hour. Liverpool barely had time to regroup before Doku made it 2–0 in the 68th minute.

Two goals in quick succession left the hosts facing a steep climb with 10 players. Cherki then added City’s third in the 78th minute, rounding off a ruthless 13-minute spell that settled the result.

The visitors finished with 64.6% possession and 15 attempts to Liverpool’s 13. Their finishing was particularly decisive: City registered four shots on target and came away with three goals. Liverpool managed six efforts on target but could not find a way onto the scoresheet.

Liverpool left to regroup

Late bookings for City’s Ayyoub Bouaddi in the 86th minute and Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk in the first minute of stoppage time did not alter the outcome. City left Anfield with three points and a clean sheet, while Liverpool were left to reflect on how quickly a level contest had slipped away after the dismissal.

Both clubs return to Premier League action on Saturday, October 17. Liverpool face Brentford, while Manchester City take on Ipswich Town, with both fixtures scheduled for 7:00 AM PDT.
