Barcelona turned an early breakthrough into a convincing Champions League victory on Tuesday, beating Aston Villa 3–0 at Spotify Camp Nou. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the seventh minute, before Raphinha struck in the 52nd and 64th minutes to put the league-phase fixture beyond the visitors.

The hosts combined control of possession with a clear attacking edge, finishing with 64.7% of the ball and eight shots on target to Villa’s one. For the visitors, a narrow half-time deficit became a much tougher assignment after Raphinha’s decisive second-half contribution.

Yamal gives Barcelona an early advantage

Yamal’s seventh-minute goal immediately left Villa chasing the match. Barcelona carried that 1–0 advantage into the interval, although the visitors remained within reach throughout the opening half.

Villa also accumulated three bookings before the break: Ian Maatsen in the 11th minute, Emiliano Buendía in the 31st and Nicolas Jackson in the 45th. Raphinha was cautioned in the 45th minute for Barcelona, before making his most significant contributions at the other end after the restart.

Raphinha settles the contest

Seven minutes into the second half, Raphinha doubled Barcelona’s lead with his 52nd-minute goal. His second followed in the 64th minute, stretching the advantage to 3–0 and leaving Villa with a mountain to climb.

The Brazilian’s brace supplied the decisive separation on a night when Barcelona registered 16 attempts to Villa’s nine. The visitors won eight corners to the hosts’ four, but that set-piece volume did not translate into sustained accuracy in front of goal.

Control and a clean sheet

Villa’s solitary effort on target underlined their difficulty in turning attacking opportunities into a route back into the contest. Barcelona, by contrast, paired their greater possession with a sharper threat and finished with a clean sheet.

Yamal provided the early spark, but Raphinha’s goals in the 52nd and 64th minutes supplied the finishing touch: three points for Barcelona and a difficult European night for Aston Villa.
