Brentford made their opportunities count to beat Nottingham Forest 2–0 at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, with Igor Thiago back among the goals and the visitors left to rue another blank.

Nikola Milenkovic’s own goal in the 30th minute put the Bees ahead, before Thiago struck in the 76th minute to give the hosts breathing space. In front of 17,108 supporters, Brentford secured three Premier League points despite having less possession and fewer attempts.

Milenkovic’s own goal gives Brentford the edge

The breakthrough arrived on the half-hour mark through an unfortunate contribution from Forest defender Milenkovic, whose own goal handed Brentford a 1–0 lead. His difficult first half continued with a yellow card six minutes later.

That single-goal advantage remained intact at the interval, leaving Forest with a route back into the fixture but Brentford holding the decisive advantage.

Thiago delivers the second-half breakthrough

Forest finished with 58.3% possession and 15 attempts to Brentford’s seven, yet those figures disguised a shortage of genuine threat. Only one of the visitors’ efforts was on target, underlining their struggle to turn time on the ball into meaningful danger.

Brentford also registered just one attempt on target, but alongside the earlier own goal, it proved enough. Thiago’s 76th-minute goal doubled the lead and left Forest facing a much steeper task in the closing stages.

The disciplinary tally added to the visitors’ frustration. Daniel Muñoz was booked in the 64th minute and James McAtee in the 83rd, while Brentford’s Michael Kayode received a yellow card in the 68th. Forest committed 17 fouls compared with the hosts’ six.

Efficiency makes the difference

This was a result shaped by what each side did with its openings rather than how much of the ball it had. Forest’s greater volume of attempts brought no reward, while Brentford emerged with two goals and a clean sheet.

For the Bees, Thiago’s return to the goals was another positive alongside the victory. For Forest, another goalless outing leaves their attacking output firmly under scrutiny.

Brentford next face Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, November 8, at 6:00 AM PST. Nottingham Forest return to action against Manchester City on Saturday, November 7, at 9:30 AM PST.
