Sabah FK made their second-half goals count to beat Slavia Prague 2–0 at Baku Olympic Stadium on Tuesday, October 13, earning three points in the UEFA Champions League league phase. Kaheem Parris opened the scoring in the 49th minute, before Joy Lance Mickels sealed the victory in the 88th.
Slavia finished with more possession and more attempts, but Sabah delivered where it mattered: in front of goal. The hosts paired two decisive strikes with a clean sheet to claim their first victory of this league-phase campaign.
Parris breaks the deadlock after the interval
Neither side found a breakthrough before half-time, leaving the fixture level at 0–0. Veljko Simic’s 14th-minute booking was the only disciplinary entry of the opening half.
The balance shifted just four minutes after the restart. Parris put Sabah ahead in the 49th minute, turning a goalless contest into a test of the hosts’ ability to protect their advantage.
Slavia’s overall numbers underline the challenge: the visitors registered 55.3% possession, 18 shots and eight attempts on target. Sabah, by comparison, had 12 shots, with six on target. Yet Slavia could not translate that greater attacking volume into an equaliser.
Mickels puts the result beyond doubt
A series of bookings punctuated the second half. Sabah’s Steve Solvet was cautioned in the 66th minute, followed by Slavia’s Emmanuel Dennis Ayaosi in the 67th. Akim Zedadka received a yellow card in the 74th minute, and Oskar Kubiak followed in the 77th.
With Sabah still holding a narrow lead, Mickels supplied the decisive second goal in the 88th minute. His late strike gave the hosts breathing room ahead of the closing stages and left Slavia with no route back.
The final whistle confirmed a valuable home victory for Sabah, whose league-phase record now stands at one win and one defeat. Slavia remain without a point after two fixtures, left to reflect on a night when their statistical advantage produced no reward.
