Club Brugge emerged from a seven-goal thriller at San Siro with a memorable UEFA Champions League victory, beating Internazionale 4–3 on Tuesday, October 13. Nicolo Tresoldi led the visitors with goals in the 30th, 63rd and 74th minutes, while Romeo Vermant’s 87th-minute strike ultimately proved decisive.

Inter twice threatened a recovery through Lautaro Martínez, who struck in the 44th and 81st minutes. Ange-Yoan Bonny added another in the third minute of stoppage time, but the hosts could not find the equaliser needed to salvage a draw.

Martínez restores parity before the break

Brugge made the breakthrough after half an hour when Tresoldi converted from the penalty spot. It gave the visitors an advantage they held until the closing stages of the first half.

Martínez supplied Inter’s response in the 44th minute, bringing the sides level at 1–1 before the interval and leaving the league-phase fixture finely balanced.

Tresoldi takes centre stage

The decisive shift came after the break. Tresoldi restored Brugge’s lead in the 63rd minute, then struck again in the 74th to complete his hat-trick and establish a 3–1 advantage.

Three goals from the Brugge forward had put Inter in serious trouble, but Martínez kept the contest alive. His second goal, in the 81st minute, reduced the deficit to 3–2 and set up a tense closing stretch.

Just as the hosts had moved within reach of an equaliser, Vermant delivered a crucial intervention. His 87th-minute goal restored Brugge’s two-goal cushion—a margin that would prove essential rather than comfortable.

Brugge withstand the late response

Bonny made it 4–3 in the third minute of added time, giving Inter one final route back into the match. Brugge nevertheless held their remaining advantage through to the final whistle.

The numbers underlined Inter’s frustration. They registered 30 shots to Brugge’s 18, led 12–8 in attempts on target and held 53.3% possession. Yet the visitors turned their attacking opportunities into four goals, with Tresoldi’s treble the standout contribution.

For Brugge, this was a valuable three-point return from a demanding away fixture. For Inter, three goals and substantial attacking output were not enough to overcome the damage conceded at the other end.
