Philadelphia Union held off a late Real Salt Lake response to secure a 2–1 Major League Soccer victory at Subaru Park on Saturday, October 10. Bruno Damiani opened the scoring in the 31st minute before Milan Iloski’s 81st-minute goal provided the cushion the hosts ultimately needed. Saba Lobjanidze pulled one back in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time, but Philadelphia protected their remaining advantage.

Damiani gives Philadelphia the first-half edge

The opening stages brought three bookings before either side found the net. Philadelphia’s Danley Jean Jacques received a yellow card in the second minute, Real Salt Lake’s DeAndre Yedlin followed in the 13th, and Union defender Frankie Westfield was cautioned in the 23rd.

Damiani supplied the breakthrough in the 31st minute, putting Philadelphia ahead and establishing the 1–0 lead they carried into the interval. With only one goal separating the teams, the fixture remained finely balanced heading into the second half.

Iloski’s second proves decisive

Real Salt Lake stayed within reach for much of the second period, but Philadelphia extended their advantage through Iloski in the 81st minute. His goal made it 2–0 with nine minutes of regulation time remaining and ultimately proved the difference between the sides.

The visitors still had a late answer. Substitute Lobjanidze struck at 90+6 to cut the deficit to one goal and keep the possibility of a draw alive. Philadelphia held on through the closing minutes, with the final whistle arriving at 90+9.

A narrow advantage in the numbers

Philadelphia finished with 52.2 percent possession and a 14–11 edge in total shots. The Union also led 5–4 in shots on target and 4–3 in corners, figures that reflected a competitive contest rather than a one-sided afternoon.

There were 34 fouls across the match, with Philadelphia committing 21 and Real Salt Lake 13. The hosts collected four yellow cards to the visitors’ two, but neither side had a player sent off.

For the Union, Iloski’s 81st-minute contribution was crucial insurance after Damiani’s 31st-minute opener. For Real Salt Lake, Lobjanidze’s 90+6 goal came too late to turn their response into a point.
