Duncan McGuire delivered the late twist at Allianz Field, heading home in the 92nd minute to earn Houston Dynamo FC a 2–2 draw against Minnesota United FC on Saturday, October 10. The Loons had overturned a first-half deficit and were closing in on three points, only for Houston to salvage a share of the spoils in this Major League Soccer Western Conference fixture.
Foster puts Houston ahead
Lyle Foster opened the scoring for Houston in the 18th minute, giving the visitors an advantage they carried into halftime. Minnesota went into the break trailing 1–0, but the hosts needed only three minutes of the second half to find their response.
Kelvin Yeboah struck in the 48th minute to bring the Loons level, resetting the contest and laying the foundation for a second-half turnaround.
Caldeira turns the match around
Marcus Caldeira, listed among Minnesota’s substitutes, supplied the go-ahead goal in the 78th minute. His contribution put the hosts 2–1 up and left Houston facing the prospect of departing Saint Paul empty-handed despite having led at the interval.
Minnesota’s task was now to protect that narrow advantage through the closing stages. Instead, Houston found one final, decisive response: McGuire, another player listed among the substitutes, headed in at 90+2 to restore parity.
A point apiece after a late reversal
The full-time statistics reflected a closely contested attacking battle. Both sides recorded 15 shots and six efforts on target, while Houston held 54 percent of possession and won five corners to Minnesota’s two. The Loons committed 16 fouls compared with the visitors’ four, with Mauricio Gonzalez booked in the 66th minute and Wil Trapp cautioned in the 82nd.
The draw brought contrasting emotions. Minnesota could take encouragement from their second-half comeback, but the late equalizer denied them a home victory. Houston, meanwhile, recovered from surrendering their lead to leave with a valuable point.
Both clubs return to MLS action on Wednesday, October 14. Minnesota face Colorado Rapids at 6:30 p.m. PDT, while Houston take on San Diego FC at 7:30 p.m. PDT.
