Newcastle United produced a ruthless second-half display to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa supplying the decisive goals.

After a goalless first half in north London, Newcastle made their moments count. Elanga broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute, before Wissa put the result beyond doubt 10 minutes later with a volley in the 72nd minute.

Spurs dominate the ball but Newcastle take the points

Tottenham had more of the possession, controlling 57.6% of the ball, and generated 17 attempts to Newcastle’s 11. The hosts also won nine corners and put six efforts on target, but could not find a way through Newcastle’s resistance.

Newcastle, by contrast, were clinical when the openings arrived. They registered only two shots on target across the match, yet both ended in goals. Elanga’s 62nd-minute finish gave the visitors the platform they needed, and Wissa’s emphatic volley in the 72nd minute delivered the knockout blow.

The opening period had been tightly contested, with Micky van de Ven booked for Tottenham in the third minute and Newcastle’s Nico Gonzalez cautioned in the 13th. Neither side could establish a lead before the interval, but the match changed sharply after the hour.

Two goals in 10 minutes settle the fixture

Elanga’s goal in the 62nd minute rewarded Newcastle’s growing threat after the break. Tottenham pushed for a response, but Wissa’s 72nd-minute volley instead gave the visitors a two-goal cushion and left the home side with too much ground to recover.

Sven Botman was booked in the 79th minute as Newcastle managed the closing stages, seeing out a disciplined away victory in front of 61,025 supporters.

The defeat leaves Tottenham searching for a sharper edge in the final third ahead of their next Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest on September 5. Newcastle will take confidence into their September 5 trip to AFC Bournemouth after a composed and efficient performance in the capital.
