Hull City claimed a hard-fought 1-0 Premier League victory over Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena, with substitute Liam Millar delivering the decisive moment in the 82nd minute.
Coventry controlled long stretches of the match and finished with 68.7% possession, six corners and 11 attempts, but they could not turn their territorial authority into a breakthrough. Hull were patient without the ball, defended their penalty area diligently and made their limited attacking opportunities count.
The first half ended goalless, with Coventry probing for openings and Hull standing firm. The visitors’ physical approach brought early cautions for Lewie Coyle in the 10th minute, before Regan Slater and Elliot Stroud were booked after the interval. Oliver McBurnie also entered the book in the 68th minute as Hull continued to protect a tight contest.
With the fixture appearing to be heading towards a draw, Hull found the cutting edge. Liam Millar scored in the 82nd minute to break Coventry resistance and put the visitors in front. Coventry pushed for an immediate response, but Aurèle Amenda’s 84th-minute yellow card was the closest the hosts came to disrupting Hull’s closing-game control.
Coventry registered three shots on target from their 11 efforts, while Hull produced six shots and two on target. The hosts will be frustrated by the result after dominating the ball, but Hull’s efficiency and defensive resilience secured a valuable away win.
Coventry City next face Manchester City on September 5, while Hull City welcome Aston Villa on the same day.
