Charlotte FC delivered a clinical Halloween performance at Bank of America Stadium, beating Orlando City SC 4-0 in Major League Soccer on Saturday, October 31. Henry Kessler opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Allan Saint-Maximin, Abdoulaye Doucouré and Rodolfo Aloko added second-half goals.
Saint-Maximin’s dismissal in the 89th minute provided a late blemish, but even with 10 men, Charlotte found time to extend their advantage.
Kessler gives Charlotte an early platform
Kessler put the hosts ahead with a sixth-minute header, giving Charlotte an early advantage that they carried into halftime. Orlando remained within a single goal at the interval, but the visitors’ afternoon became considerably more difficult shortly after the restart.
Saint-Maximin struck in the 49th minute to make it 2-0, leaving Orlando with a much steeper task before the second half had settled into rhythm.
Late goals underline Charlotte’s finishing edge
Substitute Doucouré added Charlotte’s third in the 84th minute, effectively putting the result beyond doubt. The closing stages still brought plenty of incident: Saint-Maximin received a red card in the 89th minute, and substitute Tyger Smalls was booked three minutes into added time.
Charlotte nevertheless had the final word. Fellow substitute Aloko volleyed home in the fourth minute of stoppage time to complete the 4-0 victory.
Possession tells only part of the story
Orlando finished with 55.6% possession and eight shots on target, compared with Charlotte’s six, yet left without a goal. The hosts were far more productive with their opportunities, scoring four times from 16 attempts; Orlando registered 15 attempts overall.
Those figures make this more than a simple tale of territorial dominance. Charlotte’s finishing and clean sheet proved decisive, while Orlando’s greater share of the ball brought no reward.
Next fixtures
Charlotte next face Inter Miami CF on Saturday, November 7, while Orlando City take on New England Revolution the same day. Both fixtures are scheduled for 1:00 PM PST. Charlotte move forward with an emphatic victory behind them, albeit with Saint-Maximin’s late dismissal taking some shine off the afternoon.
