Seattle Sounders FC fought back to earn a 1–1 draw with CF Montréal at Lumen Field on Saturday, October 17, with Sebastian Gomez’s 66th-minute equalizer cancelling out Hennadii Synchuk’s 13th-minute opener.
The Sounders finished with the greater share of possession and twice as many attempts, but Montréal’s early breakthrough ensured the hosts had to chase this Major League Soccer fixture. Seattle eventually found a response, though neither side could produce a winner.
Montréal strike first
Synchuk gave the visitors the lead in the 13th minute, putting Montréal in front despite what would become a substantial Seattle advantage on the ball.
Hassani Dotson was booked a minute later for the Sounders, while Montréal’s Alexis Sánchez received a yellow card in the 33rd minute. The visitors carried their 1–0 advantage into the interval, leaving Seattle with work to do after the restart.
Seattle find their equalizer
Montréal midfielder Victor Loturi went into the referee’s book in the 52nd minute as the visitors sought to preserve their narrow lead. Seattle’s breakthrough arrived in the 66th minute, when Gomez brought the hosts level and restored the possibility of a home victory.
That second goal proved to be the last. The sides remained level through six minutes of second-half stoppage time, sharing the points at the final whistle.
Sounders’ statistical edge falls short of victory
Seattle registered 63 percent possession and 18 attempts to Montréal’s nine, with a 5–2 advantage in shots on target. The hosts also won five corners compared with the visitors’ two.
Those numbers underline Seattle’s greater attacking volume, but Montréal made their more limited opportunities count and left with an away point. For the Sounders, the draw offered a recovery from an early setback without the full reward their statistical advantage might have suggested.
Next fixtures
Both clubs return to MLS action on Saturday, October 24. Seattle face San Diego FC at 7:30 p.m. PDT, while Montréal take on Nashville SC earlier that day at 10:30 a.m. PDT.
