Austin FC produced an efficient first-half display and saw out the second period with authority on Saturday night, defeating Houston Dynamo FC 2-0 at Q2 Stadium in Major League Soccer.
The home side took control early and made it count in the 13th minute when Jayden Nelson (13′) found the breakthrough, giving Austin the platform in a lively opening to this Texas fixture. Houston responded by seeing more of the ball across the evening, finishing with 54.6 percent possession, but Austin were the sharper side in the decisive moments.
The turning point of the first half came in stoppage time. After Houston’s Artur went into the book at 45’+1′, Austin made the next dead-ball situation hurt. Myrto Uzuni (45’+2′) doubled the lead with a free-kick goal, sending the hosts into the interval 2-0 ahead and leaving Houston with a mountain to climb.
That first-half cushion ultimately defined the match. Austin went into defensive mode when required after the break, protecting their penalty area well and limiting Houston to frustration despite five corners and five shots on target. The Dynamo pushed for a route back into the contest, but they could not find the final touch to test Austin’s control of the scoreboard.
There was a more combative edge in the second half than clear attacking fluency, with Austin collecting yellow cards through Joseph Rosales in the 59th minute, Mikkel Desler in the 70th, and Facundo Torres in the 72nd. Houston’s Lawrence Ennali also entered the referee’s book in the 80th minute. Even so, the hosts never looked like surrendering their advantage.
Statistically, the match was competitive. Austin finished with 12 shots to Houston’s 11, while the Dynamo edged shots on target 5-4 and corners 5-3. But the clean sheet and clinical finishing before the break were what mattered most for Austin, who turned two of their four efforts on target into goals.
For Austin FC, this was a result built on timing, discipline, and ruthlessness in front of goal. For Houston Dynamo FC, the possession was there, and some territorial pressure arrived, but the final product never did. In the end, Nelson’s early strike and Uzuni’s stoppage-time free-kick were enough to settle the match well before full time.
