Angel City FC turned a two-goal deficit into a memorable 3–2 victory over Denver Summit FC at Centennial Stadium on Saturday, October 17, delivering a decisive three-goal burst before halftime in this National Women’s Soccer League fixture.

Melissa Kössler’s second-minute opener and Lindsey Heaps’ 18th-minute volley had put Denver firmly in front. But Sveindís Jónsdóttir struck in the 32nd minute, Taylor Suarez equalized in the 39th, and Ally Sentnor completed the turnaround in the 43rd. A goalless second half ensured that remarkable first-half reversal settled the contest.

Denver make a flying start

Denver needed less than two minutes to find the breakthrough, with Kössler putting the hosts ahead in the second minute. Their advantage doubled in the 18th minute when Heaps found the net with a volley, leaving Angel City facing an early uphill battle.

It was an ideal opening for the home side, but their two-goal cushion would not survive until the interval.

Three goals in 12 minutes transform the match

Jónsdóttir began Angel City’s response with her 32nd-minute goal, cutting the deficit and setting up a dramatic finish to the half.

Suarez brought the visitors level in the 39th minute. Denver’s commanding position had disappeared, and Angel City were not finished: Sentnor struck in the 43rd minute to make it 3–2, completing a three-goal surge in just 12 minutes.

Having trailed by two, the visitors headed into the dressing room with a one-goal advantage. Sentnor’s finish would ultimately prove the winner.

Angel City hold their advantage

The second half produced no further goals, leaving Denver unable to recover a point despite finishing with 58 percent possession and a 10–6 advantage in corners.

Angel City carried the greater shooting threat across the match, registering 18 attempts to Denver’s six and five shots on target to the hosts’ three. Those figures underlined the visitors’ attacking contribution beyond the burst that decided the result.

Denver’s Emma Regan and Devin Lynch were booked in the 64th and 74th minutes respectively. For Angel City, Ary Borges received a yellow card in the 22nd minute, while match-winner Sentnor was cautioned in the 88th.

At full time, the contrast was stark: Denver were left to reflect on a lost two-goal lead, while Angel City could celebrate both their first-half response and a goalless second half that protected all three points.
