LA Galaxy produced a stirring second-half comeback at Allianz Field on Saturday night, defeating Minnesota United FC 3-2 after Marco Reus delivered the decisive goal in the 80th minute.
The visitors made the faster start and went ahead in the 12th minute through Pablo Ruiz, who curled a free-kick into the net to give Galaxy an early advantage. Minnesota responded impressively, however, and found their way back into the contest through Marcus Caldeira’s 23rd-minute header.
The Loons completed the first-half turnaround seven minutes later. Kelvin Yeboah converted from the penalty spot in the 30th minute, sending Minnesota into the interval with a 2-1 lead.
Galaxy controlled more of the ball across the match, finishing with 56.2 percent possession, eight corners and 16 shots. Their pressure told after the break when substitute João Klauss levelled the fixture with a header in the 76th minute.
Just four minutes later, Reus supplied the defining moment. The experienced German midfielder struck in the 80th minute to complete Galaxy’s comeback and silence the home support in Saint Paul.
Minnesota finished with 15 shots and five on target, matching Galaxy’s total of five efforts on frame, but could not find a late equaliser. The result leaves Minnesota United with a 7-8-11 record, while LA Galaxy move to 8-9-10.
Minnesota United return to action on Saturday, September 26, when they host Seattle Sounders FC. LA Galaxy are also in action that evening, travelling to face Colorado Rapids.
