Vancouver Whitecaps delivered an authoritative road performance on Saturday night, defeating Real Salt Lake 3-0 at America First Field to continue their impressive Major League Soccer form.
The visitors wasted no time taking control in Sandy. Brian White opened the scoring in the 9th minute, giving Vancouver an early advantage and forcing Real Salt Lake to chase the fixture from the outset.
Vancouver retained the initiative through the opening half and doubled their lead in the 29th minute through Thomas Müller. The Whitecaps went into the interval 2-0 ahead, having paired their clinical finishing with a greater share of possession and a sustained attacking threat.
Real Salt Lake attempted to find a route back after the break, winning six corners and registering 12 shots, but Vancouver’s defensive structure held firm. The hosts put three efforts on target but could not turn their pressure into a goal.
Yadaly Diaby removed any doubt in the 63rd minute, adding Vancouver’s third goal to complete a polished away display. Vancouver finished with 21 shots, six on target and 52.5 percent possession, underlining the control they established across the 90 minutes.
The second half carried a more physical edge, with yellow cards shown to Vancouver’s Tate Johnson, Jeevan Badwal, Tristan Blackmon, Diaby and Édier Ocampo, while Noel Caliskan and Morgan Guilavogui were booked for Real Salt Lake. Neither side, however, could alter the scoreline after Diaby’s decisive strike.
The result leaves Vancouver with a 15-4-6 league record, while Real Salt Lake fall to 8-5-12. RSL return to action against Seattle Sounders FC on Wednesday, September 23, while the Whitecaps next face D.C. United on Saturday, September 26.
