Jack Clarke’s 90th-Minute Goal Seals Ipswich Win Over Sunderland

Ipswich Town snatched a thrilling 2-1 Premier League victory over Sunderland at Portman Road as Jack Clarke struck in the 90th minute to settle an absorbing contest.

With 29,669 supporters in attendance, Ipswich made the most of a disciplined performance without the ball before finding the decisive late moment. Sunderland controlled 62.5% of possession and registered 11 shots to Ipswich’s 10, but the home side were clinical when it mattered most.

Emersonn opens the scoring

Ipswich began brightly and took the lead in the 24th minute through Emersonn. The forward’s finish gave the hosts a deserved foothold in the match and forced Sunderland to respond after a measured opening spell.

The visitors did respond, though, and they did so in style. Nilson Angulo levelled the fixture in the 39th minute with a free-kick, restoring parity before the interval. The sides went into half-time locked at 1-1, with neither able to establish a lasting advantage.

Sunderland pressure, Ipswich strike late

Sunderland carried more of the ball after the restart, earning five corners and putting four efforts on target. Ipswich, however, remained compact and competitive, limiting space around their penalty area while looking for a decisive transition.

The visitors’ increasing urgency was reflected in bookings for Angulo in the 55th minute and Luke O’Nien in the 63rd, while Danny Ballard had also been shown a yellow card in the first half.

Just when the match appeared destined to finish level, Ipswich found their winner. Clarke, introduced from the bench, struck in the 90th minute to send Portman Road into celebration and secure all three points for the home side.

What’s next?

Ipswich will look to build on the late triumph when they face Manchester United on August 30. Sunderland, left frustrated after a strong possession display, travel to Fulham on the same day.

Goals: Emersonn 24′, Nilson Angulo 39′, Jack Clarke 90′.
