New England Revolution survived a spirited Red Bull New York comeback before Dániel Gazdag’s 83rd-minute winner settled a gripping 3–2 MLS victory at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, October 28.
Dor Turgeman put the hosts in command with goals in the ninth and 46th minutes, only for Cade Cowell’s 51st-minute response and Julian Hall’s 64th-minute equalizer to bring New York level. With a draw firmly in reach for the visitors, Gazdag delivered the decisive goal to keep all three points in Foxborough.
Turgeman gives New England breathing room
Turgeman opened the scoring in the ninth minute, giving the Revolution an early advantage that they carried into halftime. Ronald Donkor was booked for New York in the 12th minute, while New England’s Ilay Feingold received a yellow card in the 40th.
The second half had barely begun when Turgeman struck again in the 46th minute. His second goal doubled the lead and left New York facing a demanding route back into the fixture.
New York fight back to level
The visitors needed just five minutes to respond. Cowell’s goal in the 51st minute cut the deficit to 2–1, reopening a contest that had threatened to slip away from them.
Hall then completed the comeback in the 64th minute, bringing New York level at 2–2 and setting up an open final stretch. Having wiped out a two-goal deficit, the visitors had given themselves a genuine opportunity to leave with a result.
Gazdag delivers the decisive moment
Instead, Gazdag restored New England’s lead in the 83rd minute. The Revolution protected that narrow advantage through the remaining minutes and stoppage time to secure a hard-earned victory.
The numbers underlined how competitive the evening had been. New York outshot the hosts 20–9, registered 11 shots on target to New England’s four and won six corners to the Revolution’s two. New England held a slight possession advantage at 51.4%, but their return of three goals from four attempts on target proved decisive.
For the Revolution, this was a victory built on clinical finishing and a late response after surrendering control of the result. For New York, the frustration was clear: an impressive comeback and a substantial advantage in attempts ultimately brought no points.
