Columbus Crew made their chances count at Toyota Stadium on Wednesday, October 28, earning a 2–0 Major League Soccer victory over FC Dallas through goals from Gonzalo Tapia in the 18th minute and Santiago Rodríguez in the 70th.

Dallas finished with more possession, more shots and three times as many corners, but could not turn those advantages into a goal. Columbus supplied the decisive finishing and left with a clean sheet and all three points.

Tapia puts Columbus ahead

The hosts suffered an early disciplinary setback when Nolan Norris was booked in the 16th minute. Two minutes later, Tapia opened the scoring to give the Crew the lead.

Shaq Moore also went into the referee’s book in the 31st minute, and Dallas reached the interval trailing 1–0. The deficit left the home side needing a response, but Columbus would emerge from the second half with the only other goal of the fixture.

Rodríguez delivers the decisive second

With Dallas still seeking an equaliser, Rodríguez struck in the 70th minute to double the visitors’ advantage. That second goal gave Columbus breathing room and left the hosts facing a much steeper task over the closing stages.

The final statistics underlined Dallas’ frustration. They registered 16 shots to Columbus’ nine, put five attempts on target to the visitors’ three and won nine corners against three. Their 51.8% share of possession also offered no reward on the scoreboard: Columbus turned two of their three attempts on target into goals.

Late bookings for Christian Cappis in the 83rd minute and Herman Johansson in the 87th took Dallas’ yellow-card tally to four. Columbus substitute Andrés Herrera was cautioned six minutes into stoppage time, but the visitors’ two-goal cushion remained intact through the final whistle.

Quick turnaround for both sides

For Dallas, this was a home defeat defined by the gap between attacking volume and end product. For Columbus, it was an away victory built on decisive contributions from Tapia and Rodríguez, backed by a clean sheet.

Both clubs return to MLS action on Saturday, October 31. Dallas face Sporting Kansas City at 12:00 p.m. PDT, while Columbus take on D.C. United at 11:00 a.m. PDT.
