Inter Miami CF and San Diego FC shared the points in a lively 2-2 Major League Soccer draw at Nu Stadium, where Anders Dreyer’s second goal of the night rescued the visitors after Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez had put Miami in front.
San Diego made the sharper opening and took a 12th-minute lead through Dreyer. The forward’s early strike gave the visitors a deserved foothold in the fixture and forced Miami to find a response.
That response arrived from Messi in the 24th minute. The Argentine delivered from a free-kick to bring Inter Miami level, ensuring the sides went into half-time locked at 1-1.
Miami created the greater volume of attacking pressure across the match, finishing with 19 shots and eight on target compared with San Diego’s eight attempts and three efforts on target. The visitors, however, held a narrow edge in possession at 51.4 percent and remained difficult to put away.
The home side appeared to have completed the turnaround when Suárez struck in the 74th minute. His goal put Inter Miami 2-1 ahead and gave the hosts a platform to see out the closing stages.
San Diego had other ideas. Dreyer struck again in the 82nd minute, completing his brace and restoring parity only eight minutes after Suárez’s goal. It was a clinical response from the visitors and ensured neither side could claim all three points.
There was no late winner in six minutes of stoppage time, leaving the clubs with a legitimate share of the spoils after an entertaining contest. Inter Miami move on to host Columbus Crew on September 27, while San Diego FC return home to face Austin FC on September 26.
