Angel City FC produced a ruthless second-half display to claim a 3-0 National Women’s Soccer League victory over Utah Royals at America First Field on Sunday.

The decisive storyline arrived early in Sandy, where Utah were reduced to nine players before the half-hour mark. Paige Cronin was shown a red card in the 11th minute, and Ana Tejada followed in the 24th, leaving the Royals with a daunting task against an Angel City side that controlled possession and territory.

Angel City made the numerical advantage count two minutes after Tejada’s dismissal. Ally Sentnor converted from the penalty spot in the 26th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 half-time lead.

The away side wasted little time putting the fixture beyond reach after the interval. Taylor Suarez struck in the 47th minute, extending Angel City’s advantage and silencing much of the 6,492-strong crowd. Sveindís Jónsdóttir completed the scoring in the 67th minute, finishing off a sustained period of Angel City pressure for a deserved third goal.

The numbers reflected Angel City’s dominance: they held 74.3 percent possession, outshot Utah 23-7 and put 10 attempts on target to the Royals’ two. Angel City also won six corners, compared with Utah’s two, as the hosts were forced into a deep defensive effort for most of the match.

Utah showed resilience despite their disadvantage, but two early dismissals left too much ground to make up. Angel City, meanwhile, turned their control into a comprehensive road result and kept their strong late-season form moving in the right direction.

Utah Royals return to action on Sunday, September 27, when they host North Carolina Courage. Angel City FC next face Washington Spirit on Saturday, September 26.
