Kansas City Current turned in one of their sharpest attacking displays of the season on Wednesday night, sweeping aside Racing Louisville FC 5-1 at CPKC Stadium in the National Women’s Soccer League.
The hosts were on the front foot almost immediately and needed only five minutes to break through. Haley Hopkins opened the scoring at 5′, setting the tone for a relentless first half in which Kansas City moved the ball quickly, attacked the spaces between Louisville’s lines, and repeatedly forced the visitors onto the back foot.
Debinha doubled the advantage at 15′ with a finish that underlined Kansas City’s growing control, and just five minutes later Amelia White added a third at 20′ as the Current tore through Racing Louisville with ruthless efficiency. By the interval, the home side had a commanding 3-0 lead and full control of the fixture.
Any hope of a Louisville response after the restart was quickly extinguished. Hopkins struck again at 48′ to grab her brace, and Debinha matched her with a second goal of the night at 52′, pushing the Current into a 5-0 lead before the hour mark. Kansas City’s movement in the final third was too fluid, and Louisville could not contain the waves of pressure.
To their credit, Racing Louisville kept battling and found a late consolation when Taylor Flint converted a penalty at 81′. It did little to change the outcome, but it at least gave the visitors something to show for their persistence in a difficult night on the road.
The numbers reflected Kansas City’s superiority. The Current finished with 57.2 percent possession, 17 total shots, and 10 shots on target, turning territorial control into a stream of clear chances. Louisville managed 14 shots and five on target, but the match had long since slipped away by the time Flint found the net from the spot.
There was also a feisty edge in parts of the contest, with Lauren Milliet shown a yellow card at 45’+5′, Kayla Fischer booked at 72′, and Katie Scott cautioned at 81′ just before Louisville’s penalty was awarded.
For Kansas City, this was the kind of complete performance managers crave: early intent, clinical finishing, and no let-up after halftime. Hopkins and Debinha will grab the headlines with two goals each, while White’s first-half strike helped ensure the match was effectively decided inside 20 minutes.
On a lively night in front of an announced attendance of 11,500 in Kansas City, the Current gave their supporters plenty to cheer and sent Racing Louisville home with a heavy defeat. The final whistle confirmed an emphatic 5-1 result, one built on blistering attacking football and sustained pressure from start to finish.
