New England Revolution snatched a dramatic 2-1 Major League Soccer victory over New York City FC at Citi Field on Wednesday night, with Dániel Gazdag’s 90+3′ strike settling a fiercely contested fixture.
The Revolution made an ideal start when Carles Gil converted a penalty in the 12th minute, giving the visitors an early advantage despite NYCFC quickly establishing control of the ball and territory.
New York City FC carried 65.3 percent possession and forced 12 corners across the match, repeatedly asking questions of a compact New England side. The hosts eventually found their equaliser in the 71st minute through substitute Luighi Hanri, whose goal rewarded an increasingly assertive second-half display.
