Seattle Sounders FC and Chicago Fire FC shared the points in an absorbing 2-2 Major League Soccer draw at Lumen Field on Saturday, with Dejan Joveljic scoring twice before Robert Lewandowski’s late header ensured the visitors left Seattle with a legitimate reward.
Joveljic gave the Sounders an early advantage in the 12th minute, finishing Seattle’s first meaningful attacking moment to put the hosts in front. Chicago responded well, however, controlling much of the ball and steadily building pressure through a busy opening half.
The Fire found their equaliser in the 38th minute when Maren Haile-Selassie struck to level the match at 1-1. Chicago’s possession and attacking volume told across the contest: the visitors finished with 56 percent of the ball, 20 shots and 11 efforts on target.
Seattle came out sharply after the interval and reclaimed the lead just three minutes into the second half. Joveljic netted again in the 48th minute to complete his brace and give the Sounders a 2-1 advantage. The hosts were efficient in front of goal, converting two of their three shots on target, but they could not find the third goal that would have put the fixture beyond Chicago’s reach.
Instead, the Fire continued to press and were rewarded in the 82nd minute. Lewandowski rose to score with a header, bringing Chicago level at 2-2 and setting up a tense final stretch. Seattle defended out the closing stages, while Chicago could not force a late winner despite their territorial edge.
The final whistle confirmed a share of the points after a match in which Seattle’s clinical finishing met Chicago’s sustained attacking threat. Seattle, now 7-5-9, next host Red Bull New York on Saturday, September 5. Chicago, now 11-4-6, return home to face Toronto FC the same day.
