Sophia Wilson supplied both goals as Portland Thorns FC defeated Houston Dash 2–0 at Shell Energy Stadium on Sunday, November 1, turning a productive attacking performance into three National Women’s Soccer League points.
Wilson opened the scoring in the 34th minute before adding a penalty in the 70th. Houston had more possession, but Portland generated more attempts and more shots on target to leave Texas with a clean sheet and an away victory.
Wilson gives Portland the breakthrough
The decisive first-half moment arrived in the 34th minute, when Wilson put the Thorns ahead. Her goal provided the visitors with the advantage they carried into the interval, leaving Houston needing a response after the break.
Portland defender Jayden Perry received a yellow card in the 41st minute, but the visitors reached halftime with their 1–0 lead intact.
A second-half penalty settles the contest
Houston finished with 57 percent possession, yet that greater share of the ball did not translate into a goal. The Dash registered 14 attempts, including five on target, and earned eight corners without finding a way back into the fixture.
Wilson then gave Portland breathing room in the 70th minute, converting from the penalty spot to double the lead and complete her brace. With Houston now needing two goals to salvage a draw, the Thorns kept their clean sheet intact through the final whistle.
Thorns turn attacking output into three points
Despite having 43 percent possession, Portland outshot Houston 18–14 and held a 9–5 advantage in efforts on target. The visitors also edged the corner count 9–8, underlining their ability to create attacking opportunities without dominating the ball.
For Houston, the frustration was a goalless return from a fixture in which they saw plenty of possession. For Portland, Wilson’s goals in the 34th and 70th minutes supplied the difference: one breakthrough before halftime, one penalty after it, and a 2–0 victory on the road.
