Gotham FC struck early and added late insurance to beat Utah Royals 2–0 at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Sunday, November 1. Guro Reiten opened the scoring in the ninth minute before Jaedyn Shaw doubled the advantage in the 80th, securing three points and a clean sheet in the National Women’s Soccer League fixture.
Reiten gives Gotham an early edge
Reiten’s ninth-minute goal put the hosts ahead in Harrison, New Jersey, giving Utah an early deficit to overcome. Gotham carried that 1–0 advantage into halftime, with the Royals still within a single goal of drawing level.
The overall numbers reflected a competitive contest rather than one-way traffic. Gotham finished with 54.7 percent possession and eight shots to Utah’s six, while both sides earned two corners.
Shaw provides the cushion
The narrow margin kept the result in the balance for much of the second half. Utah’s Jameese Joseph received a yellow card in the 64th minute, but the decisive development came 16 minutes later: Shaw’s 80th-minute goal stretched Gotham’s lead to 2–0 and left the visitors facing a much steeper task.
Gotham made their finishing count, converting two of their three shots on target. Utah registered two efforts on target but could not find a way onto the scoresheet.
Shaw was booked in second-half stoppage time before the final whistle confirmed the home victory. An early breakthrough, a late second goal and a shutout gave Gotham a successful afternoon, while Utah were left to rue their inability to turn a manageable deficit into an equaliser.
