Tottenham Hotspur struck twice late on to beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, as a goalless London derby unravelled for the hosts in the closing stages.

Mike Penders’ own goal in the 77th minute broke the deadlock before Cole Palmer was sent off three minutes later. Mathys Tel then added Tottenham’s second in the 87th minute, securing all three Premier League points for the visitors.
Spurs control possession, but breakthrough takes time
Neither side found a way through before half-time, leaving the fixture finely balanced at 0-0. Tottenham ultimately finished with 68.5% possession and 15 attempts to Chelsea’s seven, figures that reflected the visitors’ greater share of the ball and attacking volume.

Yet both teams registered four shots on target across the match. Chelsea remained in contention well into the second half, despite spending substantially less time in possession.
The disciplinary pressure increased as the closing stages approached. Tottenham’s Conor Gallagher was booked in the 67th minute, followed by Micky van de Ven in the 71st and Mateus Fernandes in the 72nd. Palmer also received a yellow card in the 71st minute.
A decisive ten-minute spell
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 77th minute, when Chelsea goalkeeper Penders was credited with an own goal to put Tottenham ahead. After more than an hour without a goal, the hosts suddenly had to chase the match.
Their task became harder almost immediately. Pedro Neto was booked in the 79th minute, and Palmer was dismissed in the 80th, leaving Chelsea a goal down and a player short.
Tottenham made their advantage count when Tel scored in the 87th minute. His goal doubled the lead and left Chelsea with little time to salvage a result. Spurs saw out the remaining minutes to complete a clean-sheet victory away to their London rivals.
What comes next?
For Chelsea, the defining damage came in a costly late sequence: an own goal, Palmer’s dismissal and then Tel’s decisive second. Tottenham, meanwhile, turned their statistical advantage into a tangible reward after waiting until the final quarter-hour to find the breakthrough.
Both clubs return to Premier League action on Saturday, October 31. Chelsea face Manchester United at 5:30 a.m. PDT, while Tottenham take on Crystal Palace at 10:30 a.m. PDT.
