Liverpool overturned a half-time deficit to beat Brentford 2–1 at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday, with Víctor Muñoz equalising in the 62nd minute before Alexander Isak delivered the winner in the 70th.
Keane Lewis-Potter had headed Brentford in front in the 44th minute, but the hosts’ afternoon unravelled around two dismissals. Yehor Yarmoliuk was sent off deep into first-half stoppage time, while Vitaly Janelt received a red card in the 92nd minute as Brentford finished with nine men.
Brentford’s advantage comes at a cost
Lewis-Potter’s 44th-minute header put Brentford within touching distance of a valuable half-time lead. Yet their task changed significantly when Yarmoliuk was dismissed in the eighth minute of added time before the interval.
The Bees still took a 1–0 advantage into the dressing room, but faced the entire second half a player short against a Liverpool side that would finish with 59.9 per cent possession.
Muñoz and Isak turn the fixture around
Liverpool’s breakthrough arrived in the 62nd minute through Muñoz, restoring parity and leaving both sides with everything to play for. Eight minutes later, Isak struck to put the visitors ahead and complete the turnaround.
The overall attacking figures underlined Liverpool’s greater threat: they registered 21 attempts to Brentford’s 10, led five to two in shots on target and won nine corners to the hosts’ three. Crucially, their two second-half goals converted that advantage into three Premier League points.
Brentford remained only one goal away from rescuing a draw, but Janelt’s dismissal in the second minute of second-half stoppage time further reduced their numbers. Liverpool held their lead through the closing stages to secure the away victory.
What comes next?
For Liverpool, this was a successful recovery from a difficult half-time position. For Brentford, the disappointment of surrendering the lead was compounded by finishing two players short.
Both clubs return to action on Sunday, October 25. Brentford face Hull City, while Liverpool take on Brighton & Hove Albion, with both fixtures scheduled for 7:00 a.m. PDT.
