Orlando Pride produced a ruthlessly efficient away performance to defeat Bay FC 3-1 at PayPal Park on Sunday, with Haley McCutcheon scoring twice before Lizbeth Ovalle wrapped up the points deep into stoppage time.
The visitors made the fastest possible start. McCutcheon struck in the 2nd minute to put Orlando ahead, but Bay responded with real purpose and drew level through Racheal Kundananji in the 11th minute. Kundananji’s header restored parity and set up an engaging first half in San Jose, with the sides locked at 1-1 at the interval.
Bay FC controlled more of the ball across the match, finishing with 54.5 percent possession, 27 shots and nine efforts on target. But Orlando’s defensive resilience and clinical edge in the key moments proved decisive.
McCutcheon delivered the pivotal blow two minutes after the restart, heading home in the 47th minute for her second goal of the afternoon. The Pride were able to protect that slender advantage despite sustained Bay pressure, limiting the hosts to a single goal from their considerable volume of attacking play.
Bay continued to press for an equaliser, earning seven corners and creating 20 shot-assist situations, but Orlando held their shape. The contest became increasingly tense late on, with Bay substitute Agostina Holzlieier booked in the 86th minute and Ovalle shown a yellow card a minute later.
Ovalle had the final say in the 90+6th minute, scoring Orlando’s third goal to seal an impressive road result. Orlando finished with just nine shots and four on target, yet converted three of those efforts into goals.
The result moves Orlando Pride’s record to 9-3-13, while Bay FC fall to 7-5-13. Bay return to action against Portland Thorns FC on October 18, while Orlando host San Diego Wave FC on October 2.
