Manchester United 0-1 Manchester City — Erling Haaland struck in the 60th minute as Manchester City claimed a disciplined, hard-earned derby victory at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The result was all the more striking because City played from the 23rd minute onwards with 10 men following Phil Foden’s red card. Yet the visitors absorbed lengthy spells of United pressure, stayed compact without the ball and found the defining moment through their centre-forward.
The build-up to the derby had been coloured by supporter frustration over United’s season-ticket situation, with protests reported before kick-off. Inside a packed Old Trafford, however, the focus quickly shifted to a fiercely contested Premier League match.
Foden’s dismissal changed the texture of the contest early on. United saw more of the ball and finished with 54.7 per cent possession, while also producing 16 attempts to City’s six. But territorial control did not translate into a breakthrough. City restricted United to three shots on target and remained a threat whenever they could turn possession into a direct attack.

United pushed for a response, winning six corners and registering 12 shot assists, but City’s depleted side defended their advantage with increasing determination. Josko Gvardiol was booked in the 79th minute, Enzo Fernández followed a minute later, and Harry Maguire saw yellow in the 81st as the tension rose during the closing stages.
City held on through six minutes of added time to preserve the clean sheet and extend their perfect start to the league campaign to four wins from four. United, whose overall record now stands at 1-1-2, were left to reflect on a frustrating afternoon in which they carried much of the attacking volume but could not find the final touch.
