Austin FC delivered a composed late surge at Lumen Field on Wednesday night, defeating Seattle Sounders FC 2-1 in Major League Soccer after a scoreless first half.

The visitors made their breakthrough in the 66th minute when Facundo Torres found the net to give Austin a vital advantage. Seattle had competed through an even opening period and created volume in attack, but Austin held firm before taking control of the fixture after the interval.

Austin doubled its lead in the 87th minute through Guilherme Biro, whose volley provided a decisive finishing touch to the visitors’ performance. It was a clinical moment from Biro and appeared to put the points beyond Seattle’s reach.

The Sounders did not stop pushing. Substitute Stuart Hawkins pulled one back with a header in the 90th minute, setting up a nervy finish, but Austin saw out the remaining stoppage time to leave Seattle with all three points.

Seattle finished with 19 shots and seven on target, while Austin matched the hosts with seven efforts on target from 12 total shots. Austin also edged possession 54.1% to 45.9%, showing control in key phases despite Seattle’s late pressure. Kalani Kossa-Rienzi was booked for Seattle in the 48th minute.

The defeat leaves Seattle looking for an immediate response when FC Cincinnati visits on Saturday, August 22. Austin will aim to build on the away win when Philadelphia Union comes to town later that evening.
