Vancouver Whitecaps fought back to claim a 1-1 draw with LAFC at BC Place on Saturday night, with Thomas Müller holding his nerve from the penalty spot in the 76th minute after Son Heung-Min had put the visitors ahead before the interval.
LAFC made their limited possession count in the first half. Son struck in the 37th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead, providing a sharp finishing moment in a match where Vancouver largely controlled the ball and territory.
The Whitecaps responded with greater pressure after the break. Ryan Gauld was booked in the 56th minute as the home side continued to push, while LAFC defender Ryan Hollingshead had gone into the book shortly after halftime in the 48th minute.
Vancouver’s pressure eventually brought its reward. Müller stepped up to convert a penalty in the 76th minute, levelling the match at 1-1 and giving the home support a deserved moment of celebration.
The numbers underlined Vancouver’s command of the fixture: the Whitecaps held 62.6 percent possession, outshot LAFC 20-5, put five efforts on target to LAFC’s one, and won 11 corners compared with the visitors’ one. Yet LAFC remained resilient enough to leave British Columbia with a point after absorbing sustained second-half pressure.
For Vancouver, the comeback ensured their attacking control was reflected on the scoreboard. For LAFC, Son’s 37th-minute goal and a disciplined defensive display preserved a hard-earned draw.
