Seattle Sounders FC made their first-half edge stand up on Saturday night at Lumen Field, defeating FC Dallas 2-1 in Major League Soccer after an entertaining fixture that was settled before the break.

The Sounders struck first through Jesús Ferreira in the 15th minute, capping a bright opening spell for the home side. Seattle looked sharp in possession early, moving the ball with purpose and forcing Dallas to defend deeper than they would have liked.

That pressure told again in the 30th minute when Jordan Morris doubled the lead, giving the Sounders a deserved cushion. With Seattle controlling 58.3 percent of possession on the night and putting six shots on target, the home side had enough attacking quality to keep Dallas uncomfortable for long stretches of the first half.

FC Dallas, though, stayed in the contest and found a route back before halftime. Nolan Norris rose to score with a header in the 40th minute, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and shifting the momentum just enough to ensure the second half would be tense. Dallas finished with 10 total shots and seven corners, a sign of how much pressure they were able to generate as they chased an equalizer.

The opening 45 minutes ultimately decided the result. Seattle led 2-1 at halftime, and while the second half did not produce another goal, it hardly lacked intensity. Dallas pushed, delivered dangerous moments from set pieces, and tried to turn territorial pressure into a breakthrough, but the Sounders held their defensive shape and managed the fixture well in the closing stages.

Discipline became part of the story as Dallas picked up yellow cards through Nicholas Simmonds in the 27th minute, Patrickson Delgado in first-half stoppage time, Lalas Abubakar in the 52nd minute, and goalscorer Norris in the 89th. Seattle’s lone booking went to Peter Kingston in the 82nd minute as the hosts dug in late.

In the end, Brian Schmetzer’s side did enough with their clinical first-half finishing. Ferreira’s 15th-minute opener and Morris’ 30th-minute goal gave Seattle the platform, and Norris’ 40th-minute header was not quite enough to rescue a result for FC Dallas.

For the Sounders, it was a composed home win built on efficiency in front of goal and resilience after the interval. For Dallas, there was encouragement in the response, but not the point their second-half pressure threatened to earn.
