Kansas City Current turned on the pressure early and never let up on Friday night, defeating Houston Dash 3-0 at CPKC Stadium in National Women’s Soccer League action.
The hosts were rewarded in the 15th minute when Houston goalkeeper Jane Campbell turned the ball into her own net, handing Kansas City the breakthrough. Barely two minutes later, Temwa Chawinga doubled the advantage with a well-taken finish in the 17th minute, giving the Current a firm grip on the fixture before the first half had fully settled.
That quickfire spell defined the evening. Kansas City played with authority, moved the ball sharply, and kept Houston pinned back for long stretches. By halftime, the Current held a 2-0 lead and looked comfortably in control.
Houston tried to stay in the contest after the interval and actually put five shots on target over the course of the match, but Kansas City remained composed at the back and clinical in the decisive moments. The home side edged possession at 52.3 percent, created 13 total shots to Houston’s nine, and consistently looked the more dangerous team on the pitch.
Chawinga then put the result beyond doubt in the 68th minute, striking her second goal of the night to make it 3-0. It was the standout attacking moment of the second half and a fitting reward for another lively, relentless display from one of the league’s most dangerous forwards.
There was little sign of a Houston comeback after that. The Dash struggled to turn their moments of possession into sustained pressure, and a yellow card for Linda Ullmark in the 21st minute summed up a frustrating evening for the visitors, who were often chasing the tempo set by Kansas City.
For the Current, it was the kind of polished home performance supporters have come to expect. They combined aggression in the press with efficiency in front of goal, and the result reflected just how sharp they were in both penalty areas.
The win moves Kansas City Current to 5-0-4 on the season, while Houston Dash fall to 3-1-5. In front of 11,500 fans in Kansas City, Missouri, the Current delivered a statement result and another reminder that they remain one of the toughest sides to handle in this league.
