The Rapids were made to work for the result against a Sporting Kansas City side reduced to 10 men before the interval. Kwaku Agyabeng was sent off in the 38th minute, following an earlier yellow card for Zorhan Bassong, but Colorado could not find a breakthrough in a scoreless first half.

Colorado maintained a firm grip on the match after the restart, monopolising the ball and forcing Sporting Kansas City into a deep defensive shape. The home side finished with 74.3 percent possession, 28 shots and eight corners, compared with six shots and two corners for the visitors.

The visitors’ difficult evening worsened in stoppage time when Mosquera was shown a red card in the 90+2nd minute, leaving Sporting Kansas City with nine men. Colorado then added a deserved late flourish as Navarro found the net in the 90+5th minute to put the result beyond doubt.

Although both teams registered three shots on target, the Rapids’ sustained attacking pressure and numerical advantage ultimately separated the sides. The clean sheet and two-goal margin give Colorado a convincing home result, while Sporting Kansas City leave Commerce City after a costly disciplinary collapse.
