Chicago Fire FC fought back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with Orlando City SC at Soldier Field on Wednesday, October 28, turning a difficult first half into a valuable recovery in Major League Soccer.

Iván Angulo’s sixth-minute opener and Antoine Griezmann’s goal in the 35th minute put Orlando firmly in control at the interval. Chicago responded through Jonathan Bamba’s header in the 57th minute before Maren Haile-Selassie equalized in the 69th, ensuring the Eastern Conference fixture finished with a point apiece.
Orlando build a two-goal cushion
Orlando wasted little time establishing an advantage, with Angulo finding the net after just six minutes. The early breakthrough immediately left Chicago chasing the match on home turf.
The visitors strengthened their position when Griezmann struck in the 35th minute to make it 2-0. Despite Chicago ultimately enjoying more possession and producing considerably more attempts, Orlando’s first-half goals gave the hosts a substantial deficit to address.
Bamba sparks the Fire comeback
Chicago found their route back into the contest 12 minutes after the restart. Bamba headed home in the 57th minute, cutting Orlando’s lead in half and putting the result back in the balance.
Haile-Selassie completed the recovery in the 69th minute, bringing the Fire level at 2-2. Having conceded twice before halftime, Chicago had answered with two goals of their own in a 12-minute second-half spell.
Neither side found a decisive third goal, and the draw stood through four minutes of second-half stoppage time.
Chicago’s attacking volume tells the story
The Fire finished with 58.1 percent possession and a 22-9 advantage in total shots, while also winning eight corners to Orlando’s three. Those figures underlined the volume of Chicago’s attacking work, although both teams registered five attempts on target.
For Chicago, the point rewarded a determined response after a damaging opening half. For Orlando, it was a draw tinged with frustration after surrendering a two-goal lead, but the visitors still left Soldier Field with something to show for their trip.
What comes next
Both clubs return to MLS action on Saturday, October 31. Chicago face Colorado Rapids at 6:30 p.m. PDT, while Orlando take on Charlotte FC at 10 a.m. PDT.
