Red Bull New York made their chances count rather than their possession, beating Inter Miami CF 2–0 at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Saturday, October 24. A Casemiro own goal in the seventh minute handed the hosts an early advantage, before Emil Forsberg struck in the first minute of second-half stoppage time to settle the MLS fixture.

Early own goal puts New York ahead

Miami’s afternoon took an unwelcome turn after just seven minutes when Casemiro put the ball into his own net. That breakthrough gave New York a lead they carried into the interval, leaving the visitors chasing an equalizer.

Miami had plenty of the ball, finishing with 66.5% possession, but territorial control did not translate into the sharper attacking output. New York registered 19 attempts to Miami’s 12 and six shots on target to the visitors’ two, illustrating the hosts’ greater threat despite their smaller share of possession.

Forsberg supplies the finishing touch

The one-goal margin kept the result in the balance deep into the second half. New York’s Julián Bazán was booked in the 80th minute, with the hosts still protecting the advantage established by Casemiro’s seventh-minute own goal.

Forsberg then provided the decisive cushion in the 91st minute. The substitute’s goal made it 2–0 and ended Miami’s hopes of rescuing a draw. Santiago Morales received a yellow card for the visitors in the 94th minute before New York completed the victory with a clean sheet.

The contrast in the final statistics told the story: Miami controlled possession, but New York produced more attempts and more efforts on target. An early gift opened the door; Forsberg’s late contribution closed it.
