Boston Legacy FC claimed a 2–1 victory over Racing Louisville FC at Gillette Stadium on Friday, October 16, with Deja Davis’s 51st-minute header settling the National Women’s Soccer League fixture after an evenly balanced first-half scoreline.

Amanda Gutierres put Boston ahead with a ninth-minute volley, but Kayla Fischer equalized in the 22nd minute to send the teams into halftime level at 1–1. Davis restored the hosts’ advantage shortly after the restart, and Boston kept Louisville from finding a second equalizer.

Gutierres strikes early, Fischer answers

Gutierres gave Boston an ideal start, opening the scoring with a volley in the ninth minute. The early breakthrough put the visitors on the back foot, but Louisville’s response ensured the hosts would not have everything their own way.

Fischer brought Racing level in the 22nd minute, canceling out Gutierres’s opener and leaving the fixture finely poised. Neither side added another goal before the interval, with a draw still very much on the table at the break.

Davis delivers the decisive header

Boston needed only six minutes of the second half to regain the lead. Davis headed home in the 51st minute, providing the decisive moment in a match in which the hosts enjoyed the greater share of possession and shooting opportunities.

Legacy finished with 62.6% possession and 19 shots to Louisville’s 14, while also winning the corner count 5–1. The shots-on-target tally was closer, however, with Boston registering six to Racing’s five—a reminder that the visitors remained a threat despite spending more time without the ball.

Lilly Reale received a yellow card in the 90th minute, but there was no late change to the scoreline. Boston saw out the remaining minutes to secure all three points.

What comes next

Boston Legacy next face San Diego Wave FC on Sunday, October 25, at 4:00 PM PDT. Racing Louisville’s next scheduled fixture is against Kansas City Current on Sunday, November 1, at 2:00 PM PST.

For Boston, the difference was a decisive contribution early in each half: Gutierres’s ninth-minute volley set the tone, and Davis’s 51st-minute header delivered the winner.
