Orlando City SC produced a clinical home performance to defeat Toronto FC 3-0 in Major League Soccer on Saturday night at Inter&Co Stadium.
Antoine Griezmann gave the Lions the breakthrough in the 45th minute, striking at a crucial moment just before the interval to send Orlando into half-time with a 1-0 advantage. The hosts had controlled 58.3% of possession and made their pressure count when it mattered most.
Toronto were not without opportunities, finishing with 18 shots to Orlando’s 13, but the visitors could place only four efforts on target. Orlando were sharper in both penalty areas, registering eight shots on target and keeping Toronto off the scoresheet despite the away side’s volume of attempts.
The match remained in the balance deep into the second half until substitute Harvey Sarajian doubled Orlando’s lead in the 82nd minute. His goal gave the home side breathing room and punished a Toronto side that had continued to search for an equaliser.
Iván Angulo added a final flourish in the sixth minute of stoppage time, scoring in the 90’+6′ to complete a convincing 3-0 result. Orlando also navigated a physical fixture that saw Luis Otávio and Joran Gerbet booked in the first half, while Iago Teodoro received a late yellow card. Toronto’s Derrick Etienne Jr. and Alonso Coello were also cautioned.
The victory extends Orlando City’s positive momentum and leaves the Lions looking ahead to a home fixture against New England Revolution on September 19. Toronto FC will aim to respond when they host St. Louis CITY SC on the same day.
