Colorado made the sharper start and took the lead in the 22nd minute through Aaronson. The Rapids carried that 1-0 advantage into half-time after a disciplined opening 45 minutes, though Austin remained in the contest and continued to push for a route back into the match.
The hosts gradually built momentum after the interval, enjoying a narrow 50.5 percent share of possession and earning eight corners to Colorado’s four. Austin created 11 shots, matching the Rapids’ total, but Colorado held the edge in attempts on target, 5-2, as the visitors sought to protect their lead.
Joshua Atencio was booked in first-half stoppage time for Colorado, while Reggie Cannon received a yellow card in the 62nd minute as the fixture became increasingly combative.
