Gotham FC made their chances count at Inter&Co Stadium on Sunday, October 25, earning a 2–1 National Women’s Soccer League victory over Orlando Pride despite the hosts producing more than twice as many shots.
Midge Purce’s 22nd-minute header gave Gotham the lead, and Tierna Davidson doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute. Solai Washington answered in the 65th minute to bring Orlando back into the contest, but the Pride could not find the equalizer.
Purce puts Gotham ahead
Purce broke the deadlock with a header in the 22nd minute, supplying the only goal of the first half. Gotham carried that 1–0 advantage into the interval, with Davidson picking up a yellow card in first-half stoppage time.
The visitors finished with 60 percent possession, but Orlando’s attacking output ensured this was no comfortable away assignment. The Pride registered 19 shots to Gotham’s nine and led eight to six in efforts on target.
Davidson strikes before Washington responds
Davidson provided the decisive second goal in the 62nd minute, giving Gotham a two-goal cushion. Jaelin Howell was booked a minute later, before Washington struck in the 65th minute to cut Orlando’s deficit to 2–1.
That quick response left the hosts with time to pursue a draw. Yet Washington’s goal proved to be their only breakthrough, and Gotham protected their narrow lead through seven minutes of second-half stoppage time.
Clinical Gotham take the points
The contrast between possession and shooting told the story of the fixture. Gotham had more of the ball and won four corners to Orlando’s one, while the Pride generated the greater volume of attempts. Ultimately, the visitors’ two goals from nine shots outweighed the hosts’ attacking numbers.
For Orlando, the frustration was turning 19 attempts into just one goal. For Gotham, Davidson’s 62nd-minute contribution proved the difference between a draw and all three points.
Both clubs return to action on Sunday, November 1. Orlando face Seattle Reign FC, while Gotham take on Utah Royals, with both fixtures scheduled for 2:00 p.m. PST.
