FC Dallas produced a remarkable comeback before putting the finishing touches on a breathless 5-3 Major League Soccer victory over Sporting Kansas City at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night.

Sporting Kansas City stormed into a two-goal lead through Taylor Calheira, who struck in the 4th minute and again in the 78th minute, with Stephen Afrifa adding another in the 19th minute. But Dallas showed ruthless efficiency in front of goal, scoring five times from 15 attempts despite seeing less of the possession.

The visitors made the ideal start when Calheira found the net in the 4th minute, and Afrifa doubled Sporting’s advantage in the 19th minute. Dallas needed a response, and Logan Farrington delivered one in the 27th minute to shift the momentum.

Petar Musa then levelled matters in the 30th minute with a header, before Kaick completed the first-half turnaround with a 45th-minute goal. From trailing 2-0, Dallas went into the interval 3-2 ahead.

Sporting Kansas City continued to ask questions after the break and drew level when Calheira headed home his second goal of the match in the 78th minute. The visitors finished with 56.2 percent possession, seven corners and 26 shots, but their attacking volume was not enough to prevent Dallas from taking control in a chaotic stoppage-time finale.

Musa held his nerve from the penalty spot in the 90+7th minute to restore Dallas’ lead, and substitute Santiago Moreno sealed the points with a goal in the 90+11th minute. Musa’s brace proved decisive as Dallas turned 10 shots on target into five goals.

The result moves FC Dallas on with another valuable home win ahead of Wednesday’s fixture against Minnesota United FC. Sporting Kansas City will look to regroup before travelling to face LAFC next Saturday.
