Chicago Fire FC continued their outstanding run of form with a 2-1 MLS victory over Orlando City SC at Inter&Co Stadium on Wednesday night. Puso Dithejane struck early for the visitors before Orlando found a second-half response through David Brekalo, but Robert Lewandowski’s composed penalty in the 69th minute settled an absorbing fixture.

Chicago made the ideal start, taking the lead in just the 4th minute through Puso Dithejane. The early goal gave the Fire something to protect, and they carried a 1-0 advantage into half-time despite Orlando controlling more of the ball.

Orlando emerged with greater purpose after the interval and levelled in the 52nd minute. David Brekalo rose to head home and bring the hosts back into the match, rewarding a spell in which the Lions had begun to turn their possession into pressure.

The home side finished with 57.3 percent possession, 16 attempts and five shots on target, but Chicago remained dangerous with their more limited opportunities. The decisive moment arrived in the 69th minute, when Robert Lewandowski converted from the penalty spot to restore the Fire’s lead.

Chicago saw out the closing stages to claim the points, despite Orlando’s late pressure. The Fire produced only seven shots and three on target, yet their efficiency in both penalty areas proved decisive as they extended their winning run to five matches.

Orlando City will look to respond when Real Salt Lake visit on Saturday, while Chicago Fire take their momentum into Saturday’s fixture against Red Bull New York.
