Boston Legacy FC and Bay FC played out an entertaining 2-2 draw on Sunday at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, with momentum swinging sharply across both halves before the points were shared.
Bay FC came flying out of the blocks and struck first in the 5th minute, when Claire Hutton converted from the penalty spot to stun the home side. The visitors doubled their lead in the 17th minute through Karlie Lema, who finished off Bay’s bright opening spell and put Boston under immediate pressure.
To their credit, Boston Legacy FC settled into the fixture and began to take control of possession, eventually finishing with 55.3 percent of the ball and 18 total shots. Their push before the interval brought a crucial breakthrough in stoppage time of the first half, when Amanda Gutierres rose to score with a header in the 45’+2′ minute, cutting Bay’s advantage to 2-1 and changing the feel of the match heading into the dressing room.
Boston carried that energy into the second half, pinning Bay back for long stretches and repeatedly testing the visitors with eight shots on target overall. The equaliser finally arrived in the 79th minute, when Aïssata Traoré held her nerve from the penalty spot to make it 2-2.
That set up a tense closing stretch in a match that eventually stretched to 90’+12′. Bay had shown real incision in the first half, while Boston’s response after the break underlined their resilience. In the end, both sides had to settle for a draw that reflected the split narrative of the afternoon: Bay’s clinical start against Boston’s sustained second-half pressure.
Amanda Gutierres (45’+2′) and Aïssata Traoré (79′ pen) got the goals for Boston Legacy FC, while Bay FC found the net through Claire Hutton (5′ pen) and Karlie Lema (17′).
There was also a physical edge to the fixture. Bay FC saw yellow cards shown to Casey Murphy in the 3rd minute, Jorelyn Carabalí in the 8th, and Annie Karich in the 81st, while Boston’s Brooklyn Courtnall was booked deep into stoppage time at 90’+11′.
With 8,014 in attendance and both sides desperate to shift inconsistent form, this felt like a result neither manager will celebrate fully, but one Boston may value more after clawing back a two-goal deficit. Bay, meanwhile, will regret letting their early control slip after such an impressive opening 20 minutes.
