HOUSTON (Feb. 19, 2025) – The U.S. Women’s National Team is back in action after an 80-day break, and the excitement couldn’t be higher heading into the 2025 SheBelieves Cup, presented by Visa®. Today at Houston Sports Park, head coach Emma Hayes, defenders Emily Sonnett and Crystal Dunn, and forward Michelle Cooper spoke from the media mixed zone about tomorrow’s opener against Colombia (Feb. 20, 7 p.m. CT / 8 p.m. ET on TBS, Max, in Spanish on Universo and Peacock, and on the radio via the Westwood One Sports Network and Futbol de Primera).
Sonnett on Reaching 100 Caps
Emily Sonnett will be honored before the match for reaching 100 caps with the U.S. Women’s National Team—an achievement she officially locked in last fall. Reflecting on the milestone, Sonnett said:
“I honestly thought I’d never get to this point. I’ve never been a consistent starter on this team, so to reach 100 caps is something I’m really proud of. It’s going to be really fun to celebrate and have a bunch of family here for it.”

Hayes on Tournament-Style Preparation

Joining Sonnett was Head Coach Emma Hayes, who emphasized the importance of replicating a high-pressure competition at this stage of the year, stating:
“This is a tournament setting that we want to create. We want to recreate everything as if it was a World Cup or an Olympic…to do it in a way where players are given the opportunity to play for us to assess where they stack up.”
Meanwhile, Michelle Cooper, an uncapped forward and the captain of the USA’s 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup squad, is looking to make her mark on the senior stage. Crystal Dunn, an experienced stalwart on defense and midfield, rounds out a talented roster that hopes to start 2025 strong.
