Sounders Strike Early and Hold Off LAFC for 2–1 Win

Seattle Sounders FC made their chances count, then protected their advantage to beat LAFC 2–1 at Lumen Field on Saturday, November 7. Goals from Albert Rusnák in the first minute and Sebastian Gomez in the 31st put the hosts in control before Eddie Segura’s 81st-minute header set up a tense finish.

It was a Major League Soccer fixture decided by efficiency rather than possession. Seattle converted both of their shots on target, while LAFC’s substantial advantage in attacking volume produced only one goal.

Seattle’s early double makes the difference

Rusnák needed just 51 seconds to break the deadlock, giving the Sounders an immediate advantage and leaving LAFC chasing the match almost from kickoff.

Seattle doubled their lead through Gomez in the 31st minute. With two goals on the board before the interval, the hosts had established the cushion that would ultimately carry them to victory.

LAFC finished with 61.1 percent possession, outshot Seattle 24–5 and won 12 corners to the Sounders’ two. Yet those numbers could not undo the damage inflicted by the home side’s first-half finishing.

Segura gives LAFC late hope

The visitors finally cut the deficit when Segura headed home in the 81st minute. That goal brought a draw back within reach and left Seattle needing to see out the closing stages with their two-goal cushion reduced to one.

The closing stretch also brought disciplinary trouble for the hosts. Jackson Ragen had been booked in the 76th minute, before Kalani Kossa-Rienzi received a yellow card in the 90th and Peter Kingston followed in the third minute of stoppage time. LAFC’s Sergi Palencia had earlier been cautioned in the 73rd minute.

Seattle held firm through six minutes of added time to secure all three points. LAFC registered eight shots on target to Seattle’s two, but the Sounders’ decisive first-half strikes proved enough.

For Seattle, this was a victory built on taking opportunities when they arrived. For LAFC, the frustration lay in turning territorial superiority and a heavy shot count into too little, too late.
