Real Salt Lake’s early double proved decisive as goals from Sergi Solans (10’) and Zach Booth (13’) secured a 2-1 victory over LA Galaxy at America First Field on Saturday, November 7.
Luc de Fougerolles’ own goal in the 40th minute gave the visitors a route back into this MLS fixture, but a goalless second half ensured RSL took all three points in Sandy, Utah.
RSL’s quick double sets the tone
Solans opened the scoring in the 10th minute, and Galaxy had little time to regroup before Booth doubled the advantage three minutes later. With just 13 minutes played, the hosts had established the cushion that would ultimately settle the match.
Galaxy received a lifeline before the interval when RSL defender de Fougerolles put through his own net in the 40th minute. That reduced the deficit to 2-1 and left the contest finely balanced heading into the second half.
Galaxy possession fails to produce an equalizer
The visitors finished with 58.8% possession and nine corners to RSL’s six, but their greater share of the ball did not translate into an equalizer. Galaxy attempted 13 shots without registering one on target, with their only goal coming through de Fougerolles’ first-half misfortune.
RSL, meanwhile, generated 20 attempts and put nine on target despite having 41.2% possession. Those figures underlined the hosts’ attacking threat beyond their decisive opening burst, even though they could not add a third goal.
Four Salt Lake players were booked: Kobi Henry in the 16th minute, Juan Manuel Sanabria at 45+3, de Fougerolles in the 55th and Solans in the 77th. Galaxy’s Carlos Garcés also received a yellow card in the 87th minute.
Fast start delivers three points
Galaxy remained only one goal away from a draw throughout the second half, but RSL protected their narrow advantage through the final whistle. The visitors had the possession; Salt Lake had the early finishing that made the difference.
Final result: Real Salt Lake 2–1 LA Galaxy.
Goals: Sergi Solans 10’, Zach Booth 13’; Luc de Fougerolles 40’ (own goal, for LA Galaxy).
