Minnesota United Rally Past San Jose 3–1 After Three-Goal Second Half

Minnesota United FC turned a halftime setback into a 3–1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes at Allianz Field on Saturday, November 7, producing three unanswered second-half goals in their MLS fixture.

Preston Judd put San Jose ahead in the 45th minute, but Tomás Chancalay equalized in the 57th before an Angus Gunn own goal in the 82nd swung the contest Minnesota’s way. Nectarios Triantis then added the finishing touch in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time.

Judd gives San Jose the halftime advantage

San Jose landed the opening blow just before the interval. Judd’s 45th-minute goal sent the visitors into halftime with a 1–0 lead and left Minnesota needing a response after the restart.

That advantage ultimately proved insufficient, although the Earthquakes remained level deep into the second half after Minnesota drew themselves back into the contest.

Chancalay sparks Minnesota’s comeback

Chancalay supplied the equalizer in the 57th minute, wiping out San Jose’s lead and setting up a tense final half-hour.

Across the full match, Minnesota carried the greater attacking threat despite possession being almost evenly shared. The hosts registered 14 shots to San Jose’s eight and six attempts on target to the visitors’ three. Their eight corners, compared with San Jose’s two, also reflected their greater activity at the attacking end.

Late goals settle the contest

With the teams still level entering the closing stages, the decisive breakthrough arrived in the 82nd minute. San Jose goalkeeper Gunn was credited with an own goal, putting Minnesota ahead for the first time.

Triantis made certain of the points in the 90+4th minute, extending the lead to 3–1 and completing a second half in which Minnesota scored three times without reply.

For San Jose, Judd’s opener became a missed opportunity to build on a promising halftime position. For Minnesota, the evening belonged to a comeback that gathered its decisive momentum late: back on terms through Chancalay, ahead through Gunn’s own goal, and finally beyond reach through Triantis.
