Vancouver Whitecaps wasted no time taking charge of their Cascadia fixture, powering past Seattle Sounders FC 5–1 at BC Place on Sunday, November 1. Brian White led the way with goals in the first and 53rd minutes as the hosts turned a blistering start into an emphatic Major League Soccer victory.
Vancouver seize control from the opening minute
Seattle were behind almost immediately. White headed Vancouver into the lead in the first minute, and Ryan Gauld doubled the advantage in the ninth, leaving the visitors facing a substantial task before the match had settled.
The Whitecaps added another decisive blow just before the interval. Mathías Laborda headed home in the 43rd minute to establish a 3–0 half-time lead, giving Seattle little margin for error after the restart.
White’s second ends any doubt
Rather than allowing the visitors a route back, Vancouver extended their advantage through White’s second goal in the 53rd minute. At 4–0, the hosts had translated their attacking threat into a commanding position.
Jordan Morris pulled one back for Seattle in the 62nd minute, denying Vancouver a clean sheet. It proved only a consolation: Aleksa Cvetković struck in the 70th minute to restore the four-goal cushion and complete the 5–1 result.
Whitecaps make their chances count
Seattle finished with slightly more possession, at 51.5 percent, and won six corners to Vancouver’s two. But the hosts carried the greater threat where it mattered, producing 18 shots to Seattle’s 13 and nine efforts on target to the visitors’ five.
Those figures underlined the difference between having the ball and making it count. Vancouver’s early goals shaped the contest, and their continued attacking output ensured Seattle never mounted a meaningful recovery.
