New England Revolution made their decisive moments count at Subaru Park on Saturday, defeating Philadelphia Union 2-1 in an MLS fixture with goals deep into added time in both halves.
Dor Turgeman opened the scoring in the third minute of first-half stoppage time (45+3), before Carles Gil doubled the visitors’ advantage from the penalty spot at 90+1. Neil Pierre’s header at 90+12 gave Philadelphia a late lifeline, but New England emerged with all three points.
Turgeman delivers before the interval
The breakthrough arrived just before halftime, with Turgeman’s 45+3 goal sending the Revolution into the dressing room 1-0 ahead. Its timing left Philadelphia facing a second-half recovery on home turf.
The Union finished with the greater share of possession and twice as many attempts, recording 52.6 percent of the ball and 24 shots to New England’s 12. Yet both sides registered eight efforts on target, underlining the visitors’ ability to threaten without matching Philadelphia’s shooting volume.
Gil’s penalty proves decisive
With the deficit still at one goal, Philadelphia remained within reach of a draw as regulation time expired. Gil’s penalty in the first minute of second-half stoppage time (90+1) changed that equation, putting New England 2-0 ahead and leaving the Union needing two late goals to salvage a point.
Pierre pulled one back with a header in the 12th minute of added time (90+12), ensuring a tense conclusion. It proved only a consolation, however, as the Revolution protected their remaining advantage to complete a 2-1 away victory.
Philadelphia’s volume falls short
For the Union, the frustration lay in turning 24 attempts into just one goal. New England were more productive from their opportunities, while also winning the corner count 6-4 despite having less possession.
The result was ultimately shaped by the visitors’ goals at the end of each half: Turgeman’s opener established the lead, and Gil’s penalty supplied the cushion that Pierre’s late header could not erase.
